I got an email from Tim, who told me that he has already informed his dealer that he will trade in his current VW for a TDI Amarok as soon as they arrive.
Tim mentioned a couple of points/questions and I though that the best place to open them were in a open form so that everyone could see the answers and if anyone out there knows more, please feel free to comment or email me.
- Can we import an Amarok from Mexico?
I’ve briefly looked at importing a vehicle from both the US and Europe. In most cases importing from Europe the vehicle has to be 15 years or older (The Amarok was only introduced a couple of years ago, so it won’t qualify) and from the US there is a list of acceptable vehicles. I would think that importing from Mexico would be somewhere between the two. If I have time in the next few days I’ll have a look at a few websites.
- How much do dealerships currently know?
Tim indicated that his local dealership appeared to know a fair bit of information, I haven’t had time to do anything other than send an email to a local dealership. I’m on the road to Phoenix again on the weekend, maybe I’ll try to get into a dealership before I leave and ask a few questions.
- How is the Canadian Government going to classify the Amarok?
Tim also indicated that he was told that the Amarok would be classified as a truck by the government and would have to have a urea system. I haven’t done any research in this area, but I could see it happening as several new diesels have various systems to reduce emissions. I currently reside in Ottawa and you can’t throw a rock without hitting a random government worker. Tonight I’ll grab a bunch of rocks and start throwing until I hit someone that works for Transport Canada and then start working the grapevine to see if I can find anything out.
- Good job on the website!
Thanks Tim. I realize that there isn’t much information here yet and the ‘forums’ are basically empty, but hopefully we can build an online community around the Amarok. If anyone else knows any information and would like to share send it along. If you would like to be anonymous, please tell me.
